In terms of using a computer, be It a laptop, desktop or otherwise, the
hardware keyboard Is the most used component during your day-to-day computational tasks. Depending on your usability and preference when performing certain operations, you may have the desire to change a few settings every now and again. Wouldn't It be nice to access It with a double-click of the mouse? Well, In this tutorial, I will show you
how to create a keyboard properties desktop shortcut.
If you're anything like myself, who enjoys the simplicity of accessing settings by simply double-clicking a shortcut, then this tutorial Is for you. Once the
Keyboard Properties shortcut Is applied and executed, here's a visual of what to expect.
There's no easy way to find this via
Control Panel, hence I will demonstrate
how to create a desktop shortcut with Incredible ease. All It takes Is to enter a single command, follow a few prompts and the job's done. So without further delay, let's get this tutorial started.
Step One:
Firstly, navigate to your computer's desktop, right-click on a blank area and select
New >
Shortcut as shown below.
Step Two:
Next, In the
Type the location of the Item field, enter the following command.
control /name Microsoft.Keyboard
Then hit
Next to move forward.
Step Three:
Now you need to give your shortcut a name. It can be anything you like. For the purpose of this tutorial, I've named mine
Windows 10 Tips Keyboard. When you've made your choice, click
Finish to finalize the process.
Step Four:
I've now navigated to my PC's desktop and as you can see, the
Keyboard Properties desktop shortcut has been successfully created. Let's make sure It's functional by double-clicking It.
Step Five:
As expected, upon double-clicking the shortcut, the
Keyboard Properties window has executed. I can apply the settings according to my usability. Let's click on the
Hardware tab.
Step Six:
The
device name and properties Is displayed, which can be of help If the keyboard Is not functioning as normal. I'll now hit the
Properties button.
Last Step:
Upon selecting the
Driver tab, I can view the
driver provider,
version number and
digital signer. This Is the same as what you'll see when accessing this option via
Device Manager.
Final Thoughts:
It really doesn't get any easier than this, does It? The process from start to finish only takes a couple of minutes at the maximum. Aside from accessing the
Keyboard Properties with a double-click of the mouse, the other good thing about this Implementation, Is that the shortcut Is not dedicated to the desktop per se. You can
copy & paste It to just about
any directory of your choice.
