How To Rename Files & Folders With Emojis

When you rename a file or folder In Windows 10, provided you're using any of the allowable built-In characters, the process Is extremely simple and at the same time Is somewhat boring, namely being limited to the type of characters that are accepted. You can however, put some variation Into your file & folder names by using emojis, and In this tutorial, I will demonstrate how to do this natively without the aid of third-party tools.

If you attempt to rename a file or folder with a particular emoji by using your hardware keyboard, you'll notice that It cannot be done. Moreover, even If It were possible, the options are very limited. As such, I will show you how to add emojis to any file or folder, by using the Windows 10 built-In Touch Keyboard.

So what's the purpose of using emojis as the file/folder name? Well, If you have a folder containing some funny Images, you can use a smiling emoji. Or may be you've written a romantic letter, hence the file can be renamed with a love heart emoji. There are no hard and fast rules- the only limit, Is your Imagination!

The process only takes a few steps and Is extremely simple, so without further ado, let's see how this Is done.

Step One:
The first thing you need to do, Is to have access to the Windows Touch Keyboard. To do this, right-click on the Taskbar and select the Show touch keyboard button option as shown below.

Step Two:
The Touch Keyboard button will now be active on the Taskbar. We'll access this shortly.

Step Three:
Navigate to the file or folder that you wish to rename with emojis, right-click It and select that very option (Rename). For the purpose of this tutorial, I will rename my Windows 10 Tips folder.

Step Four:
Next, click on the Touch Keyboard Icon In the Taskbar and when the keyboard executes, hit the smiley face emoji symbol as demonstrated below. Click on the Image to expand the view.

Step Five:
Now simply select the emoji(s), that you want to name your file/folder. I've chosen a few random emojis.

Last Step:
And here's my result. As you can see, my folder that was Initially named Windows 10 Tips, now has a few emojis representing It's title.

Final Thoughts:
If you're the creative type of computational user who enjoys adding a little fun Into your computing environment (as every user should!), then this tutorial Is for you.

It's beyond the scope of this article to demonstrate each and every emoji, so have a browse via the Touch Keyboard and see what you think. Renaming the file/folder back to It's original tittle, Is as simple as right-clicking It and hitting the Rename option. Have fun 🙂
